Although each of the women has been asked back, only newest housewife Kelly Bensimon has signed on to appear next season. A network insider tells us the other ladies are dragging their feet over — what else? — money. “The Housewives all want six-figure deals,” says our source. “They barely made 10 grand for the first season, and now are all a bit too big for their britches. They want the whole shebang: a clothing allowance, money for hair and makeup, a set raise and a promised amount of screen time.” To be prepared in case anyone refuses to sign her contract (a network rep refused to comment on any contract negotiations), Bravo has quietly been interviewing at least 30 prospective cast members. One “Housewife” source tells us that the interviewees are single moms in their 30s who are as attractive and well-connected as socialite Bensimon. Meanwhile, another network insider says the girls should just be grateful they still have a job. “They’re forgetting that the New York show now plays second fiddle to the New Jersey show,” according to the snitch. “They should watch out! The OC Housewives were a perfect example of how each woman can be replaced.” As for leggy Kelly’s deal, her co-stars are naturally displeased — as, most certainly, will be fans. Some 85% of polled viewers on Bravo’s Web site said they’d vote her off the show. But our first insider insists that Bensimon has appeal: “People may hate Kelly, but they aren’t immune to her. They hate her so much that they want to see what she’ll do next. I missed the Friday, June 26 premiere of Virtuality, a "Sci-Fi TV movie" (it was actually a pilot for a TV series, not a movie), and thus had to catch up and acquire it after the fact. Why did I miss it? Hmm, let me think"¦ Could it be that there was virtually NO PUBLICITY? And now the rumour is that FOX has decided not to pick it up as a series. Instead, they hid the movie on a Friday night with practically no buzz. Nice one. It's a small wonder that Virtuality did not score high in America's far too powerful Nielsen Ratings: no one knew about it. One has to wonder about Fox TV sometimes. Here they have a glossy new, high-budget, high-quality pilot made by the current god of television Sci-Fi, Ronald D. Moore, and they don't promote it. He should be rubber stamped for a new series, for frack sake. This guy can do no wrong. He was the main man behind Battlestar Galactica, arguably the most successful Sci-Fi of all time, in terms of its double whammy of popularity and critical acclaim. And before that he headed up a couple of series for an obscure franchise called Star Trek. Heard of that one? Moore brings along his bud Michael Taylor (Battlestar Galactica, Star Trek: Voyager) and director Peter Berg from the critically acclaimed Friday Night Lights and immensely entertaining Hancock. Well I think we've found the reason: DOCTOR WHO writer Russell T Davies, regarded by many as the country’s best TV dramatist, has rocked BBC executives by announcing that he is leaving for the US. The move is a major blow because, as well as revitalising Doctor Who, Davies created two popular spin-offs,Torchwood and The Sarah Jane Adventures. Torchwood, starring Eve Myles, shifted to BBC1 from BBC2 last week, clocking up huge audiences. But there is now uncertainty over its future with its creator relocating to Hollywood. Davies said of his move: “I haven’t planned anything, all my furniture is now there and I’m just going to start writing. “It will take years to get anything made out there. It’s going to be difficult, so new and so brilliant. I will learn from people and bring it back here one day. It’s a big adventure and a lot of fun.” Asked about the future of Torchwood, a BBC spokeswoman said: “It’s his show but it’s too early to say whether it will return.
